Progress Reports in Aspen: A Refresher

Resources to support the report card writing process are available in a variety of formats.

  • short instructional videos (2-8 minutes in length)
  • print documents
  • recorded learning session

LKDSB teachers can access the video and print resources at

View this recorded learning session for an overview of the Progress Reports in Aspen, including  Gradebook features and Live demonstrations. (1 Hour)

Check out the new Grade Comment Verification Report.  This report creates a pdf of the grades and comments entered in the Gradebook for a course. (Post Grades is still required to show the subject's marks and comments on the Report Card Document)

It is a way to review the entered marks and comments by course/subject without having to run the Report Card document and scroll from student to student.

Under One Sun: Literacy Resource

LKDSB educators have access to a new reading resource.  Look for the Classroom Set for each grade.

(Note: Size Up!!   Kindergarten: Set 1, Gr. 1: Set 2, Gr.2: Set 3, etc.)

The Under One Sun resource invites K-8 students and teachers to learn about, and learn from Indigenous history, culture and perspectives.

Each student text was written by Indigenous authors and Indigenous artists created the illustrations.

The Classroom Set includes a detailed Teacher Guide.  Included are a Read Aloud, a Shared Reading and Guided Reading Lessons.  The structure of each lesson: Before, During and After activities and discussion prompts.  Lessons focus on Literacy Strategies: Visualizing, Making Connections, Inferences, etc.

Six titles with six copies of Student Texts (Books, Cards, or Magazines) are included in each Classroom Set.  The Leveled texts can be used for Guided Reading and or Independent Reading.

Reconciliation Connections:  a suggestion for connecting to reconciliation through discussion or activities is provided in each lesson.

Indigenous Themes are explored throughout Under One Sun:

  • Identity: The theme of identity explores how people-Indigenous and non-Indigenous- think about and define themselves.
  • Connections to Mother Earth: This theme explores each person’s relationship with Mother Earth, the source of all life.
  • Relationships: Through the theme of relationships readers explore the importance of each person’s connection to other people, as well as to all creatures on Mother Earth.

Additional resources, including video, audio, images, and curriculum connections can be found at the Online Teaching Centre.

LKDSB Teachers access the Online Teaching Centre using the LKDSB MyNelson Login (username and password you use for Nelson Literacy and Math Resources)

Under One Sun is a great companion to the Take Action for Reconcilliation Junior/Intermediate resources that were delivered to schools last year.
